On Friday, June 2nd at 7:30pm we will have our next astronomy club meeting at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford.

Please note the change of location! Henceforth, the club will meet at The Center at 10 Elm in Boxford, just across the street from our previous location.

At this meeting we will have our regular club business meeting. Once that completes (approx 7:45PM) we will have our guest speaker.

As part of Topsfield's recent STEM Day club member Brewster LaMacchia
presented a workshop on stellar spectroscopy to 5th and 6th graders. At
Friday's meeting Brewster will run the workshop for meeting attendees.

After a short presentation on the reasons scientists are interested in
stellar spectrums we'll do some hands on activities with optical
spectrometers that will be provided to attendees. We'll look at a range
of light sources, including gas tubes loaned by Merrimack College's
Physics department. We'll also experiment with creating and observing
Doppler shifts to understand how those measurements can help scientists
determine everything from the mass of stars and exoplanets to the
expansion of the universe.
