The Celestial Observer – December, 2012

From the President Our November monthly meeting featured a discussion dealing with the future of star parties. The results of this discussion will be reported elsewhere in the Observer under the meeting minutes. We will finish out those Star Parties which have already been booked and not schedule any additional Star Parties until a system […]

The Celestial Observer – November, 2012

From the President Our monthly business meeting last week featured a wonderful presentation by our own Ted Blank about how to give presentations at star parties.  We had a quorum and we were able to get in some telescopic observing afterward, and although seeing conditions were not ideal, it was good to get back out […]

The Celestial Observer – October, 2012

From the President A public health situation has put a hold on some of our club’s activities.  Eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile Virus have been reported  in our area, and after seeking the advice of my colleagues who specialize in infectious diseases, the board has made the decision to postpone star parties until after the frost. However, all […]

The Celestial Observer – September 2012

From the President  Our August monthly meeting was successful and productive as we once again had a quorum, and we had the opportunity to plan some of our club’s upcoming events.  There are several star parties scheduled in the near future.  Our previous star parties this season have been successful.  Although we didn’t have a […]

The Celestial Observer – July, 2012

From the President Hi, everyone! I’m glad that at least a few of us were able to see the Venus transit and I want to thank those who shared their observations.  Astronomy is kind of an ironic hobby in that, for example in order to be able to see the clouds on Jupiter and Saturn, […]

The Celestial Observer – June, 2012

From the President The last month has been loaded with astronomical activities.  I want to begin by welcoming all the members who have recently joined the club, including the winners of this year’s Young Astronomers Program.  What a nice feeling it was to see the looks of pride on the faces of the parents of […]

The Celestial Observer – May, 2012

From the President Our last meeting on April 6th was a success as we had an excellent turnout and two telescopes at the pre-meeting Scope Clinic. Thanks to those who helped out. Since our last Celestial Observer, the YAP Committee selected the winners of this year’s contest. Six very deserving youngsters will be receiving Dobsonian telescopes […]

The Celestial Observer – April, 2012

This March is a good month for amateur astronomy. Temperatures are warming, the showcase wintertime objects are still observable earlier in the evening, and Mars is now at opposition, rising in the east after sunset. Venus and Jupiter shine brightly in the western skies after sunset.

The Celestial Observer – March, 2012

Greetings! I would like to thank everyone who attended our February monthly meeting and the Scope Clinic that preceded the meeting. I wish the sky had been clear so that we could have done some stargazing.

The Celestial Observer – December, 2011

Our November meeting started late because we assembled the YAP scope. This was the Bushnell scope purchased by Kevin at a lower price than last year’s scopes. Many hands made assembly easy and quick, with no problems encountered.
