Minutes of the NSAAC Business Meeting December1, 2017

President Deneen called the December Business Meeting of the NSAAC to order at 7:38 PM.  There were 6 board members present and 7 club members. There was a quorum. Meeting was official.


The minutes of the November business meeting was approved by acclamation..


No Report.


There are currently approximately 55 members in good standing.

Merrimack College:

No update

Salem University:

Observatory was open on November 20th with 13 guests and on November 27th for a star party for Cub Scout Pack 83 from Salem with 20 scouts and parents and 5 other attendees..  Dennis would still appreciate help from anyone who would like to help run the observatory.  Contact Dennis Gudzevich if interested.

Star Party Committee:

The last star party of the year was the Sanborn School in Andover,  Over 150 students and parents were entertained with scopes by John Brucker, Michael Deneen, John Gall, John Hobbs, Dan Smoody, and Dick Leucke. Brewster received a $200 check from the Sanborn School Star Party.

The Bob Seibel 10″ Dob is available for club members to borrow! It would be great to see this scope get out and about more.

Telescope Clinic:

No report.

Old Business:

Report from Bryan Stone about the 6mm Orthoscopic eyepiece from the donated C8 telescope.  Very good for splitting double stars at 200X in his 8” Dob.

The club still would like to find other volunteers to do star party presentations. If anyone is interested please contact Brewster LaMacchia. We are also looking for any members who would like to assist at Merrimack College Observatory.

New Business:

A motion was made and seconded to change Article X, Land Fund, of the bylaws to read:

“Article X, Land Fund: Land fund monies may be used for general club purposes, including but not limited to promoting observing opportunities and outreach. At the discretion of the Treasurer, priority in the disposition of said monies shall be given to preventing the insolvency of the NSAAC”.

The motion was approved by majority vote with one abstention.


Entertainment for the evening was a presentation of the science fiction movie Xontar-Men from Mars.  Popcorn, Ring Dings, and cookies were provided along with coffee and cider..

Meeting adjourned 9:15 PM.
