Minutes of the NSAAC Business Meeting October 6, 2017

President Deneen called the October Business Meeting of the NSAAC to order at 7:46 PM.  There were 6 board members present and 7 club members. There were 3 guests. There was a quorum. Meeting was official.

The minutes of the August and September business meeting were approved by acclamation..

No Report.

There are currently approximately 60 members in good standing.

Merrimack College:

Brewster LaMacchia has advised that Ralph Pass is no longer involved at Merrimack College. Kelsey Hargrove is the new director of the observatory.  She has agreed after the temporary fix at the observatory, NSAAC can continue with Wednesday night observing.  Ralph may continue training prospective club observatory leaders.

Salem University:

Observatory was open on September 11th with 17 guests and on the 25th with 22 guests.  Dennis would still appreciate help from anyone who would like to help run the observatory.  Contact Dennis Gudzevich

Star Party Committee:

The Trails and Sails event took place at Barris Farms in Amesbury with about 80 visitors and we had good observing of Jupiter and the usual deep sky objects.

The next star party is at Sanborn Elementary in Andover on October 24th with a cloud date of October 26th.  This is a usually well attended event and we will need 5 or more scopes.

Need “star party insiders” – I will send an email on Friday to the list. So far have 5 (including myself) so we need at least 7 more to be able to have a star party program.

Bob Seibel 10″ Dob available for club members to borrow! It would be great to see this scope get out and about more. I picked up a laser collimator this summer (Huetech, like Dick’s) to help keep it ready to go.

Telescope Clinic:

No report.

Old Business:

The club still would like to find other volunteers to do star party presentations. If anyone is interested please contact Brewster LaMacchia. We are also looking for any members who would like to assist at Merrimack College Observatory.

Secretary Hobbs has received the permit for use of Dark Park. Contact him if you need a copy.

See Dennis Gudzevich to order or pay for your calendars and handbooks.

New Business:

Someone has donated another complete Clestron C8 with case to the club.  It is fee to any club member or organization who could use it.

The board of directors is proposing to change the club bylaws in order to make the land club funds available for other club uses as the prospects of purchasing land for the club is not something that is feasible. President Deneen will send out to the list server, the proposed word change to Part X: Land Fund in the bylaws and this will be discussed at the November business meeting and voted on at the December business meeting.  Also included in the email will be a link to download the bylaws.

Entertainment for the evening was a presentation by club members Richard Leucke and Michael Deneen about their involvement in the 2017 Acadia Star Party.  They showed pictures taken of the event and discussed several of the events and different telescopes involved.

Meeting adjourned 9:05 PM.

Respectively submitted

John Hobbs, Secretary NSAAC
