Lawrence Charter Day School Star Party April 7

After 3 previously canceled attempts, Thursday night about 40 students and parents came to the Rolling Ridge Center in North Andover for a star party.  Club members Dick Lueke, Tom Vozzella, Bryan Stone, Kevin Ackert, and David Aucoin along with NSAAC coordinator Brewster LaMacchia provided telescope views of Venus, Jupiter, double stars, clusters, nebula, and galaxies as the twilight glow was replaced by increasing darkness interlaced with expanding jet contrails and some haze.

Brewster’s lighted solar system scale model was also set up, and several satellites were observed. Later Dave went on a nebula hunt and tracked down the Eskimo, Owl, Ghost of Jupiter, and Cats Eye. A couple of meteors were observed, including a long (probable) earth grazer from the fading eta Aquarid shower.
