Come learn about the night sky and view astronomical objects through the telescope’s of NSAAC club members. This event is appropriate for all ages (though please note younger children sometimes need help viewing through a telescope).
The events will only take place if the weather is cloud free. A decision will be made by 1 PM the day of the event and posted here. Please check this status page before you head to the event.
Last status update: Sept 27th, 11 AM
Fri Sep 27th: The event is ON for tonight (Friday). The clouds are expected to mostly clear out by 8PM.
Setup time: 7PM – 7:30PM
Viewing hours: 7:30PM – 9PM.
Please note the driveway is not very wide. When you enter the property look for the large parking lot on the right, about 500′ from the entrance. Please park on the lower end of the lot. If possible please shut off your headlights before turning into the parking lot as the telescopes will be set up at the upper end.
The marker shows the exact spot of the lower parking lot: http://w3w.cm/foreman.plodded.picnic
Please do not bring flashlights into the observing area as they ruin your night vision. You may however want to bring along bug spray.
If you would like, print out this star chart and bring along with you. As the moon will be full for the 20/21st the objects we view on those nights will tend to be brighter ones. Want to practice recognizing constellations ahead of time? Try out (free) http://www.stellarium.org/
There are regular observing events held at Salem State and Merrimack college, you can learn about them here:
