August Business Meeting

President Stone called the August Business Meeting of the NSAAC to order at 8:15 PM.  There were 3 members present plus 6 Board members.   There was not a quorum.  Meeting was informational only.

Secretary: No report.

Treasurer: Treasurer’s books will be closed until end of June.

Membership: Kevin Ackert announced that we have 79 paid members in good standing and 34 yet to renew.

Early Meeting Announcements:  Open forum on the agenda after New Business.

Committee Reports:

Merrimack College: Kevin Ackert didn’t open the last Wednesday in July. Fred Sammartino opened on the 31st.

Salem State University: The Observatory is closed for the summer.  Dennis said he will open on August 3rd for about 30 new students at the university.

News, Correspondence, and Upcoming Activities:

Star Party Committee: Upcoming Star Parties: Friday & Saturday, September, 20/21 and/or 27/28, Essex Heritage at Veasey Park.

Telescope Clinic: No Activity.

YAP Program: The club still has not been reimbursed for the eyepieces ordered and not received from Owl Astronomy Products.  Kevin Ackert has submitted a claim to PayPal for resolutions, but has not yet heard back from PayPal.

Old Business: The club still would like to find additional volunteers to do star party presentations.  If anyone is interested please contact Brewster LaMacchia.

New Business: Kevin put the mirror grinding apparatus on EBay for $8,000.   He got a call from a lady who does brokering of grinding machines. If we want her to broker the sale of the grinding machine we need to provide better pictures.  Also, she thinks $8K is a little too highly priced.

Veasey Contract Renewal: VMP has a new event coordinator who has proposed a contract for $200 and 16 hours of volunteer labor at Veasey for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.  The board members present at the meeting agreed that contract was acceptable and, with gratitude, accepted board member Richard Luecke’s offer to be the new liaison with Veasey.  Dick will meet with the Veasey coordinator and tell the club accepts their proposal.

Over the summer a discussion was started on the possibility of using one of the Veasey buildings as an observatory for the club.  The board determined that there was insufficient interest in the club in pursuing another observatory.

Meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM

Respectively submitted

John Hobbs, Secretary NSAAC
