Methuen scouts visit observatory at Merrimack

Tags

Fred Sammartino hosted a very nice and smart group of scouts from Methuen Monday (Apr 8th, 2013) night  at the Merrimack College observatory – a total of 24 including scouts, siblings and guardians. We qualified them for an astronomy belt loop. We were able to dodge the clouds enough for a beautiful view of Io passing close by Europa in orbit around Jupiter, and keeping with the theme of close doubles, a low power view of double star Mizar (actually a spectral double-double) and Alcor (also a too-close-to-split double in its own right!).
