About 40 scouts and parents attended Astronomy night at their local Pack meeting. Due to clouds and the threat of snow the observing portion could not take place. Fred Sammartino gave a great introductory presentation to the group, which ranged from 1st to 5th graders.
Kevin Hocker brought over his Dob and a number of books and other astronomy items. Brewster LaMacchia setup a spectroscopy activity with multiple “while” light sources that when viewed through a spectrometer showed very different spectrums as a way to illustrate how we can learn about what a star is made of even though it’s 20,000 light years away. Club President Bryan Stone was also present to assist with the activities.
